One of my favorite stories in the Book of Mormon is the story of the Helaman’s 2000 Strippling Warrior. In the Book of Alma 53: 20
- “And they were all young men, and they were exceedingly valiant for acourage, and also for strength and activity; but behold, this was not all—they were men who were true at all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted.”
Today our young men . . .and young women have their own wars to face which includes pornography, drug addiction, violence, gang membership, etc. . . All of these are easily accesible on the internet (a click of a button). It use to be that danger lurked when our children leave the house but today it can happen even in our very homes without us (parents) realizing it. Safeguarding our homes and our children is a never ending pursuit.
After the war with the Lamanites, Helaman numbered his young men and not one of them have fallen to the earth(v.56). This was such a surprise to Helaman. Looking back to Helaman’s young men, what was so extraordinary about them. Why were they so courageous and true to their word. The same question that Helaman had asked these young boys. And in Alma 56:47 - 48
- “47 Now they never had fought, yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the aliberty of their bfathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their cmothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them.
- 48 And they rehearsed unto me the words of their amothers, saying: We bdo not doubt our mothers knew it”
Let as not tire of teaching our children correct principles right from the time they are very young. Because as they grow older and develop socially, we will not always know where they go, what books and magazines they read or what internet sites they visit. Our thin line of hope is that we took the time to teach them, love them and pray for them .
