My daughter, Valerie invited me to join this group and she said I would love it. I guess she knows her Mom pretty well!!!
What is your Favorite Food Smell?
For me nothing beats the smell of fresh ripe mangoes particularly the variety we call carabao mangoes. In the Philippines the best mangoes are the Guimaras mangoes. It is so smooth, sweet and definitely no-after taste. However there are several other mangoes available in our local market from the very small native mango “chupadera” which is best eaten unripe and dipped in “bagoong” as an appetizer. We also have the apple mango, ever-green mangoes (even when ripe), indian mangoes and the largest variety is the “kabayo” variety. The largest variety I have seen and tasted is almost a foot long and weighing almost 1 kilo!!. And taste very good too.
What is your Favorite kind of Apple?
In our part of the world where we do not grow apples but import them from other countries particularly Japan, China and the United States, the best tasting apple I have tasted is the variety we call Fuji Apple. It is so juicy and taste so good. This variety must come from the famed Mt. Fujiyama in Japan.
What veggies do you like in your salad?
Salads are supposed to be quick and easy to prepare. And I like lettuce, carrots and tomatoes best in my salads.
Share a recipe that uses beef

Kare-kare is native to the people of Pampanga, Philippines. They make the best tasting Kare-kare. However, my kids love my version of this recipe which I cook on Sundays. It is cooked on a low-fire with little attention. The original version uses ox-tail
1 kl beef 8 pcs s tring beans
1 kl ribs 3 heads petsay
2 packs Kare-kare mix bagoong or shrimp paste
1 pc banana heart, quartered
2 pcs eggplant
Cut meat in serving size. Boil in covered pot over slow fire in enough water to cover the meat until almost tender. Add the Kare-kare mix and banana heart then mix well. Cover and continue cooking. Add the rest of the vegetables. Serve hot with “bagoong” or shrimp paste.

Great answers! You’ll have to let me know if you try the meatloaf!
wow! looks yummy
my mom cooks kare kare too..
instead of using a kare kare mix, she combines roasted rice(bugas), peanuts, atsuete (and some other stuff that I’m not quite familiar)..into a food processor …
then the outcome of the mix will be added to the pot of meat.
The mix makes life a bit easier though not as good as the real thing.
I wonder if your apples are more expensive than here in the states since they have to be shipped in. I have no idea what I pay for apples though. Welcome to FFOF.
Ohhhh.. I love trying new recipes from other countries! I’ll have to see if I can find all ingredients. Loved all of your info on Mangoes!
