The past week has really been fantastic, I really am overwhelmed!!! Great, great friends whom I have lost touch with have communicated with me. And All this because of the internet. In an instant, I realized how blessed I have been because of these associations.
First it was Cindy, she was my daughters Stake Young Women President in Cagayan de Oro. A very talented and smart young lady. Her Mom( passed away) was my fellow counselor in the Relief Society. So we were frequently in each others homes. Cindy is now living in Tuguegaro with husband and now she is also a Mom. Congrats Cindy. We left Cagayan de Oro together in 2005.
Next Naomi, she wrote my daughter (Valerie) through Friendster. and eventually wrote me after asking for my email. Isn’t it great. The last time I saw her was in Ozamis City (1996) twelve years ago!!!and she was always backriding on his cousin’s motorcycle (or was it a bicycle?). She also, has such a beautiful voice, if I am not wrong, she used to be the lead vocalist of the Institute’s band!! . Her Tita Linda was my Visiting Teaching Companion and what a great companion she was.
Naomi has 2 kids (no picture yet) and lives in Houston, Texas as an ICU nurse. I really admire this young lady. She said she works only on weekends, while her husband works during the week. She would rather care for her young children personally than leave them to someone else. She could have done otherwise but instead chose for the weightier and more important things in life, Her FAMILY.
Then last Monday, I read an offline message from a dear dear friend of long ago. It was also through the maze of the internet that I was able to communicate with Meng. There were three of us young Moms: Luz, Meng and myself in our Tetuan Ward (Zamboanga Stake) in the later part of the 80s and we were the best of friends. We were in each others homes, kitchens and in each others affairs. The three of us were often “quieting down’ our babies at the back of the chapel and we even shared each others maternity dresses!!!. I remember, Luz’ toddler pulling me down and telling me that I was using her Mom’s Maternity clothes (which I remember was really mine and had shared it with Luz - ha ha ha).
We went our separate ways a few years later - My family went to Ozamis, Meng went to Manila and Luz stayed in Zamboanga. Looking back, I feely sorry that our children did not even become playmates even if they were together as babies.
We talked to each other yesterday after so many years, with tears of joy and gladness. It seems a part of me has lit up. I am so happy for Meng and for the wonderful kids that she has raised so valiantly.
